Velly, Jean-Pierre

né en septembre 1943 à Audierne, Finistère, France 1959, Beaux-Arts de Toulon; Arts Appliqués de Paris, et Beaux-Arts de Paris; 1966 1er Grand Prix de Rome de gravure; 1967-1970, Villa Médicis, Rome; demeure en Italie; 1990 meurt par noyage à Trevignano.

Il grave des accumulations d’objets, de décharges, de tuyauteries d’usine, d’homoncules fuyant l’apocalypse. De temps à l’autre, la composition s’éclairicit pour une femme nue allongée comme une Maja, clairière dans les troncs torturés et des fleurs tendres. Ses peintures, dispersées chez des collectionneurs italiens, sont peu connues.

On a dit: “ De Dürer à Bosch et à Velly, un même chemin, qui va de l’intervention des monstres et des catastrophes à la contemplation des fleurs et des plantes, qui s’opère comme une métaphore de ces monstres et de ces catastrophes. La même main qui avais mis au premier plan les horreurs du présent a saisi l’humble vie végétale dans son devenir. Deux choses différentes en apparence, mais la force de Velly, sa victoire est d’avoir réussi à dire que c’était la même chose.” (Alberto Moravia)
